Coronation Street star Barbara Knox was arrested for drink-driving on the same night as her daughter. 
 
The 80-year-old actress is said to have been arrested last night after driving to a Cheshire police station to demand the release of her daughter Maxine Ashcroft who was arrested hours earlier on suspicion of drink-driving.
 
The veteran Corrie star has played Rita Tanner in the soap for more than 40 years.
 
The actress’ 56-year-old daugher was reportedly the first to be arrested after being pulled over and breathalysed by police while driving her mother home following an afternoon out together.
 
The soap star is believed to have arrived at Knutsford Police Station in Cheshire later that evening wanting to speak to officers about her daughter, but was then arrested herself after police suspected that she had driven there while under the influence of alcohol.
 
The actress was bailed pending further enquiries, while her daughter is said to have been charged fpr the offence and will appear in court next week.
