Michelle Williams has opened up about how raising her daughter without the late Heath Ledger "won’t ever be right" in a heartbreaking interview with Porter Magazine.

Actor Heath passed away in 2008 following an accidental overdose of prescription drugs – his daughter Matilda was just two-years-old at the time, and Michelle says she couldn’t stop crying following his death.

The mum-of-one who plays grieving mother Randi in the film Manchester by the Sea, revealed that the movie has brought back painful memories, saying: “It’s like the darkest part of your heart, something happening to your child...”

Comparing her reality to her character, she continued: “[Randi]’s making a brave choice, moment by moment, hour by hour, day by day. Because it is a choice.”

"In all honesty, for pretty much everything else, I feel like I'm a believer in not fighting circumstances, accepting where you are and where you've been."

"In pretty much all senses but one, I would be able to go totally down that line of thinking were it not for Matilda not having her dad," she continued.

"You know, that's just something that doesn't…I mean, it just won't ever be right."

The 36-year-old met Heath while filming Brokeback Mountain in 2005, and welcomed Matilda shortly after. The couple spilt in 2007.
