After so much tragedy, the family were hoping that their story would finally take a positive turn, and thankfully this seems to be the case this week.

The young children of Jason Corbett, who died after an assault with a baseball bat, have been removed from the care of their stepmother and placed under the guardianship of their aunt, Tracey Lynch.

The children of the Limerick man - 10-year-old Jack and eight-year-old Sarah - had been living with stepmother Molly Martens, who is a suspect in their father’s death.

The kids’ mother, Mags Corbett, died from an asthma attack back in 2006, and the Corbett family have been petitioning for the little ones to be returned home to their relatives.

Today’s news was confirmed by the Irish Daily Mail’s Catherine Fagan, who revealed that the children are to remain in the States until tomorrow’s court proceedings are carried out.

Jason Corbett, 39, passed away earlier this month after receiving fatal head injuries from a baseball bat attack. Ms Martens and her father, 65-year-old Thomas Martens have been named as ‘persons of interest’ in his death.
