Fans of Sex and the City will doubtless remember this scene.

At the end of the first Sex and the City film, Carrie returns to the penthouse she intended to live in with Mr Big to pick up a pair of Manolo Blahniks, and he surprises her with a laughably large walk-in closet.

It's supposed to be a sweet gesture, one that will get 'oohs' and 'awws' from the audience as we realise that the commitment-phobe businessman really does want to spend the rest of his life with Carrie (and her collection of shoes).

However, Cynthia Nixon, a.k.a. Miranda, is not impressed by this moment.

In fact, during a recent interview on The Wendy Williams Show, the gubernatorial candidate said that the scene left her 'devastated'.

A post shared by Wendy Williams (@wendyshow) on

“I was a little devastated by that because it seemed to me that the show was so much about female empowerment and about women making their own choices, and women standing up for what they wanted and supporting themselves," the mum-of-three told the show's host.

“So to me, to have this be kind of a climax of the film that your very wealthy husband builds you a nice closet for your clothes, I thought, ‘Wow, that’s not really what you love about the show, is it?’ ‘Cause that’s not what we were making it for," she pointed out.

Cynthia laughingly added, “We love the clothes! I’m not saying we don’t love the clothes.”

The actress does have her sights on goals outside Hollywood and the world of fashion, though.

The outspoken LGBT rights activist recently announced her bid for New York governor, running as a Democrat against incumbent Andrew Cuomo.

To be honest, it's a pretty Miranda move on Cynthia's part, and we love it! All three of her SATC sisters have sent her their support as she sets off on her new career path into the realm of politics.

Back to the subject of Sex and the City, though - do you agree with Cynthia's criticism of the closet reveal scene?
