The father of a little boy, who hit the headlines after choosing to ignore doctors' wishes regarding his son's cancer treatment in recent years, is celebrating this week as his son makes his return to school.

Brett King and his wife Naghmeh were the subject of an international manhunt in August 2014 after they made the controversial decision to remove their son, Ashya, from Southampton General Hospital in search of alternate treatment abroad.

Following their subsequent arrest in Spain, Ashya's parents spent time in prison before a British High Court judge approved their request to take their son to Prague in order to receive proton therapy.

After an incredibly harrowing eighteen months, Ashya's parents are this week celebrating their brave little boy's return to full-time education, with Brett gushing: "He is doing very well. We are so proud of him."

Speaking to Good Morning Britain, the devoted and determined dad admitted that the family still face obstacles, explaining: "There are still a few issues – he is wobbly on his legs and his speech is a bit strained, but he is a fighter, he does not give up and he is prepared to try anything."

According to his father, Asyha, who received proton therapy on the NHS despite initial resistance on the part of the health service, is slowly returning to normal, with Brett insisting: "We expect him to make a full recovery to the boy we had before."

We are delighted to hear the King family are beginning what sounds like a very happy and positive year ahead.
