There was outrage recently when a father share his hospital bill after his wife gave birth to their child, and it emerged that they were charged almost $40 for skin-to-skin contact.

At the time, new dad and Redditor ‘HalfThrottle’ lamented over his $13,000 bill, telling followers: “I had to pay $39.35 to hold my baby after he was born.”

He went on to become a viral sensation, with many expressing their anger over the cheeky addition to the bill – but the dad himself is still enjoying the joke.

I had to pay $39.35 to hold my baby after he was born.

In fact, he took to Reddit once more, to update his fellow Redditors on how he and his little guy are getting their own back on the medical team!

“Hey Reddit! I’m the dad who was charged $39.95 to hold my son at the hospital. Here’s my kid in his new favourite shirt,” he wrote.

He then shared a photo of his adorable little tot – who is wearing a hysterical T-shirt emblazoned with the words: ‘Free hugs $39.95”.

While some people were able to join in and have a laugh, the comment section is predominantly taken up by fellow horrified parents

“Charging people for birth seems insane. Making sure women survive child birth and the children have the best start in life really is a public good,” observed one Redditor.

Meanwhile, another added: “The problem is really the cost associated with child birth. 13 grand? Come on.”

If we didn’t laugh, we’d cry!
