A US dad has captured the hearts and minds of people all over the world today, after penning an incredibly touching letter to his daughter with Down syndrome on her wedding day.

Paul Daugherty, a columnist with The Cincinnati Enquirer, walked 25-year-old daughter Jillian down the aisle recently as she tied the knot with her boyfriend of 10 years, Ryan Mavriplis.

Opening up to Buzzfeed, the proud dad admitted that he has chosen to share his touching essay to capture the special moment and give hope to other parents of children with Down syndrome.

“Do you remember all the stuff they said you would never do, Jills? You wouldn’t ride a two-wheeler or play sports. You wouldn’t go to college. You certainly wouldn’t get married. Now…Look at you,” wrote Paul.

Paying tribute to his wonderful daughter, he added: “You’re the nicest person I know. Someone who is able to live a life of empathy and sympathy, and without agendas or guile, is someone we all want to know. It worked out for you, because of the person you are.”

Paul went on to share the beautiful open letter with The Mighty website, where it has attracted plenty of praise and touching comments.
