There are so many tragic stories involving wild animal enclosures, which is why we are so relieved to hear that there was a positive ending to little Kellan Denny’s story.

The six-year-old Cape Town native is said to be ‘recovering well’, after being attacked and ‘dragged’ by a leopard at a nature reserve.

Kellan was enjoying a day out at N’tsiri Private Nature Reserve with his family when the incident occurred.

According to a report by News24, Kellan was playing on a four-metre-high wall in front of the leopard area with his eight-year-old brother at the time.

His parents, who were eating lunch nearby and watching the kids, saw one of the leopards lunge at Kellan as he ran along the wall. The terrified child was then dragged for about 30 metres.

The boys’ father, Justin, immediately leapt into action, chasing after the leopard until, thankfully, it dropped Kellan.

Justin told local news: “By the grace of God, it dropped him. Then I picked him up and rushed him back to the rondavel and attended to his injuries. Then a neighbour arrived with his wife, who is a nurse.”

Little Kellan was then brought to hospital for stitches, where he also received tetanus injections and a course of antibiotics.

The little boy is said to be recovering well after the terrifying ordeal, and he is even back in school this week.

In a statement, the manager of N’tsiri Private Nature Reserve said that this is the first such incident to happen in the park’s history.

“Most likely the leopard was hunting impala and saw the little boy. Luckily the father chased him and the father was catching up, which is why (I think) he dropped him,” he explained.

Thank heavens this story didn’t end in tragedy.

SHARE to commend this brave father for his actions.
