We previously reported on the story of Jane Richard, the little girl who lost her leg in the tragic Boston Bombings, and was recently able to dance again for the first time since being fitted with a prosthetic.

While her recovery is an encouraging tale, a court in the States yesterday listened to the devastating account of her family’s ordeal on that tragic day, in the words of her father, William.

The court heard how a terrified William was forced to leave his dying son, eight-year-old Martin, so that he could rush his two other children to hospital.

Speaking at the trial of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, who is accused of planting the bombs at the Boston Marathon on April 15, 2013, William recalled some of the horrific moments of his ordeal.

“I saw a little boy who had his body severely damaged by an explosion and I just knew from what I saw that there was no chance,” a heartbroken William told the court.

With his wife and two other children, Jane and Henry, all injured, William added: “I knew in my head that I needed to act quickly or we might not only lose Martin, but we might lose Jane too.”

He revealed that his wife, Denise, who had been blinded by the explosion, stayed with her eight-year-old son in his final moments.

What a devastating account. Our hearts go out to the Williams family, and all who are still living with the fallout from the tragedy.
