We have reported on quite a few disturbing incidents regarding childcare centres recently, but this one has to be one of the most chilling and concerning we have ever heard.

A day care centre in Oklahoma is currently under investigation amid reports that staff gave infants Benadryl to make them sleep. Manufacturers state that the medicine should never be given to infants without doctor’s permission.

In one reported incident, a six-month-old tot named Hendrix is believed to have been given the medicine. His mum Leslee Meade became suspicious when he began returning home from the centre drowsy and unable to do anything but sleep.

Employees of Sue’s Day Care centre in Durant have come forward to confess that they were ordered to administer the drug to young children, and owner Beverly Sue Stair is subsequently under investigation by the Department of Human Services.

Commenting on the incident, Ms Meade spoke of the anguish Stair’s actions have caused: “What she was doing was messing with our lives. Had something happened it would have changed everybody’s life forever. It would have taken something away that would never have been gotten back [sic].”

We will keep you updated on the story as more information emerges.
