A department store has sparked a major debate online after they featured a woman wearing a hijab in their back-to-school catalogue.
Target customers have been taking to social media this week to praise the department store giant for their latest catalogue, which also featured a little girl with leg braces.
Target Australia have been inundated with comments from people thanking them for their representation of a diverse community.
However, while some are calling the catalogue ‘culturally diverse', the catalogue has been met with a lot of criticism also.
Many have now sworn to boycott Target with one person saying:
“Target Australia, you lost a whole family of customers and we will be telling everyone we know not to shop at Target.”
Many are calling the campaign ‘unnecessary’ and are slamming Target for featuring people of certain religions.
@Targetaus Shame on you for normalising and promoting the oppression of women with that 'back to school' ad. Never shopping there again.

However, Target are standing strong on the issue and are responding to positive comments with this response:
@littlemissyem_ Thanks for sharing your thoughts on our catalogue! We're pretty proud of all of our models featured in this one!
