The world has been rocked by the devastating mass shooting that took place in Tunisia yesterday, killing 38 people, and the heartbreaking details of the individual survivor stories have emerged this morning.

British mother Saera Wilson has paid tribute to her courageous fiancé, Matthew James, who threw himself in front of her to protect her from gunfire. The 30-year-old, from Wales, is currently being treated for wounds to his shoulder, chest and hip.

Speaking to British media about the terrifying moment, mum Saera said: “He took a bullet for me. I owe him my life, because he threw himself in front of me when the shooting started.”

Recalling the frightening moments after he was shot, Saera added: “He was covered in blood from the shots, but he just told me to run away. He told me, ‘I love you babe. But just go – tell our children that their daddy loves them.’”

She hailed Matthew’s actions as “the bravest thing I’ve ever known”, going on to describe the scene at the beach as ‘chaos’.

The couple are parents to two children; six-year-old Tegan, and 14-month-old Kaden, who remained at home with family in Britain while Matthew and Saera headed on holidays to Sousse.

“His pelvis was shattered by the bullet and he also had a heart attack, but he is alive. I’m just praying we can get out of here as soon as we can,” Saera said of Matthew’s injuries.

Their family, and all those affected by this shocking tragedy remain in our thoughts and prayers.
