A 19-year-old has been charged in connection with the death of Oisín McGrath, 13, who passed away following an incident in the school playground.

Francis McDermott appeared before Enniskillen Magistrate's Court today, where he is accused of manslaughter.

Oisín was rushed to hospital last February (2015), after becoming "unwell" at St. Michael's College in Enniskillen, Co Fermanagh. He sadly passed away four days later.

Exact details of the tragedy have never been released.

At the time, the school issued a statement which stated that "a group of students were playing at lunchtime when one student became unwell and we sought medical assistance."

Speaking on behalf of Mr McDermott, a solicitor said that two families have been left devastated by what happened in February.

"While we have instructions to represent Francis McDermott, he and his family have asked that we state publicly that their ordeal is nothing compared to the loss and devastation that the death of Oisín McGrath has caused to his family."

"Francis will carry the memory and affect of what happened in the schoolyard on that day with him for the rest of his life."

Five of Oisín's organs were donated, and in memory of their young son, Nigel and Sharon McGrath set up a foundation to raise awareness of organ donation.

All funds raised will be distributed to promote Organ Donation Awareness, Brain Stem and Brain Injury Research and local Youth Sports Development projects.
