Some truly devastating news has emerged today from China, with reports that a baby boy has died in a tragic escalator accident.
According to reports, the four-month-old tot was with his grandmother, in the Wu Yue shopping plaza, in Shanghai, when he fell over the side of an escalator.
CCTV footage captured the grandmother stepping onto the third floor escalator, with the little boy in her arms.
After mounting the moving stairs, she is said to have lost her balance, with her body toppling over to the side of the escalator.
The movement threw the baby from her arms and, sadly, she was not able to hold onto him with one arm.
A woman and another young child – believed to be the baby’s mother and sister – were standing behind when the incident occurred.
It is estimated that the baby fell 30ft down to the ground below. He was rushed to hospital after the horrific fall but, devastatingly, he passed away in the early hours of this morning.
No further details have as yet been released.
