A young woman, who was due to give birth tomorrow, was among six people who died following a tragic accident during a rally car race in Spain yesterday.

Members of the public, including pregnant Ana Cayazzo and her partner Miguel Caridad Pereiro, had gathered to watch rally car drivers compete in the Coruna race in Galica when the tragedy occurred.

Losing control of his vehicle, one driver skidded off the race track before ploughing into a group of spectators in an incident which has been broadcast across numerous television channels.

Commenting on last night's devastating events, a spokesman for the Civil Guard said: "One of the drivers took the track at a much higher speed than he should have and he veered off a curve, slamming into around 20 people."

Reaching out to all those affected by the devastating tragedy, Mariano Rajoy, the Spanish Prime Minister, said: "The Coruna Rally is in mourning. My deepest condolences to the bereaved and wishes for a complete recovery of those injured."

According to reports, four men and two women died as a result of the accident, with police warning that the death toll could rise.

Our thoughts go out to all those affected at this tremendously difficult time.
