They say money is the root of all evil, and that phrase certainly rings true if you are to consider the case of  Juanita Garcia  from Texas.

The 46-year-old woman, in an effort to con the public out of money, made a decision which subsequently led to her apprehension and arrest.

In a move beyond contempt, Juanita convinced her little girl that she was dying of cancer and used the sickening ploy to obtain money from concerned members of the public who were understandably eager to help fund the child’s cancer treatment.

Shaving her daughter’s head in a bid to strengthen her case, Juanita posted photos of the little girl on social media and appealed to her followers for help.

In a post which would pull on the heartstrings of any social media user, Juanita shared an image of her little girl wearing a bandana accompanied by the message: “My princess. Fighting her cancer, I know she will. Prayers for my baby.”

Having claimed her daughter only had months to live, Juanita’s story eventually caught the attention of officials who, having investigated the case, quickly determined that Juanita’s daughter was, thankfully, in the fullness of health.

Commenting on the case, the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office said: “During questioning, Garcia admitted to investigators that her daughter had never been diagnosed with cancer, and that she had obtained monetary donations from various persons.”

Juanita Garcia has been charged with exploitation of a child.
