The Jack & Jill Children’s Foundation has created a new ‘currency’ to fund home nursing care for children in the form of donated Lego blocks.

Known for its creative fundraising campaigns, like mobile phone recycling, the foundation will then sell the donated and collected blocks to raise much-needed funds to care for children from birth to 4 years old with severe to profound disabilities .

They are looking for loose Lego - no need for complete sets or boxes - and people can donate via DPD Ireland’s 38 depots around the country.

Alternatively, you can donate or sell the Lego via one of Jack & Jill’s five charity boutiques located in Arklow, Carlow, Naas, Newbridge and Wicklow, with the charity buying the Lego for €4 per kilo and selling it on for €8 per kilo.

Every €16 raised through this appeal will fund one hour of home nursing care for a sick child.

The charity is hoping to capitalise on the traditional Christmas tidy up that starts in Irish homes at this time of year, with many families making room for more toys over the coming weeks. This campaign will continue into 2016 and beyond, if successful.

So how can you get involved?

All people have to do is pack up the loose Lego securely for transportation, address it to Jack & Jill Children’s Foundation, Lego Appeal, Johnstown Manor, Naas, Co. Kildare and drop it into your local DPD depot (DPD are just taking donations of Lego and not buying it).

If you want to sell your Lego, you can do so through the charity's five shops, where they will also be accepting donations.

Before you send it in though, do check that all blocks have the Lego brand and aren't the cheaper, plastic versions.
