Many of us are still in shock over the photos of five-year-old Omran Dagneesh, and yet another heart-wrenching story has emerged from war-torn Aleppo, Syria, today.

Doctors forced to perform an emergency C-section on a woman injured in airstrikes have managed to save both mother and child.

According to a report by Channel 4 News, the woman was nine months pregnant when she entered the hospital with a broken arm and leg.

Doctors also had to remove shrapnel from her body – including her stomach – in a desperate bid to save her and her child.

Astonishing but graphic footage showed doctors delivering a baby boy whose heart was not beating.

After 20 minutes of resuscitation, the tot’s heart finally started to beat, and he let out a much longed-for cry.

Incredibly, the doctors were also able to save the mother, known only as Mayissa.

The footage and photo stills were captured by filmmaker Waad Al Katib, who was reporting from the operating theatre.

We’re thinking of this new mother and her son; they will remain in our prayers.
