A pregnant mother and three young children are now confirmed to have died in the fire that broke out in an apartment in Dublin early yesterday morning.

27-year-old Annemarie O’Brien and her two-year-old daughter, Paris, were killed in the blaze at an apartment complex in Kilcronan Avenue, Clondalkin.

Three-year-old Holly O’Brien and her four-year-old brother Jordan also passed away, after spending the day fighting for their lives in Our Lady’s Hospital, Crumlin.

Holly and Jordan’s mother, 30-year-old Biddy, is still in critical condition at St James’ Hospital.

The fire began at around 2.30am on Wednesday morning and is said to have been caused by an electrical fault in the sitting room of the apartment.

The apartment was a part of the Sonas Domestic Violence Charity and the CEO, Fiona Ryan, has spoken in the hours since the tragic incident, saying: “Our sympathies and condolences are with the relatives and friends of the deceased and all those implicated by this awful tragedy.

“We are devastated by the tragic loss of life which occurred as a result of a fire in an apartment in our supported housing complex.

Sonas is working with the relevant authorities on their inquiries. We are awaiting further details from An Garda Siochana.

“We are currently supporting other families in the apartment complex, including those unable to return to their homes because of fire damage, for whom we are sourcing alternative accommodation.

“We would ask that the privacy of all families residing in this complex be respected at this time of loss.”
