It’s likely that the Luas strikes of early 2016 are still fresh in the minds of disgruntled commuters, but it looks as though their travel problems are far from over.

It is growing increasingly likely that industrial action is on the cards for Dublin Bus drivers, following a 'disappointing' pay ruling in the Labour Court this week.

Dublin Bus drivers previously demanded a pay increase matching that of their Luas counterparts, with a figure of 31 percent being put forward by unions representing the workers.

This week, the Labour Court ordered for an 8.25 percent pay rise to be actioned – which has, naturally, left the drivers disappointed and dissatisfied.

The drivers are now reportedly set to vote on the new pay proposal, with industrial action likely to be on the cards.

In an interview this morning, a representative from the National Bus and Rail Union said that expectations have not been met.

Speaking on Newstalk’s Pat Kenny Show, Dermot O’Leary said: “I have been telling everyone for months that anything less than what the Luas workers got is not acceptable.

“We told the Labour Court that if their recommendation was less than that given to the Luas drivers, then the message they were sending is that the only way to get a pay rise is to strike,” he added.

If they go ahead, the strikes are predicted for this coming autumn.
