A community in west Dublin is on high alert this week following an attack on a 13-year-old girl in broad daylight on Monday.

The teenager was jogging in Manorfields Drive Road, Clonsilla when she was approached from behind by a man who pulled a bag over her head.

Thankfully, the youngster managed to escape unharmed and alerted staff at Colaiste Pobail Setanta.

Commenting on the terrifying incident, local councillor David McGuinness said: "The community want to see anybody who is involved in something of this nature to be brought in for questioning. Anyone who would attack a young girl like that is just a scumbag."

The incident follows two more of its kind in recent weeks and has led school authorities to issue yet another warning to parents regarding the safety and welfare of their children.

Alerting them to the recent incident, parents were told to ensure their children were not left unsupervised in the area, saying: "Please do not allow students to walk alone in the area, There was a potential incident in the area after school today."

This incident marks a frightening development in the chain of events as this was the first occasion in which the preparator came into physical contact with the youngster.

Five units of Gardai rushed to the scene of the incident in Manorfields Drive, but the attacker had fled.
