If you've ever tried to wrangle the kids into Dublin city centre during St. Patrick's Festival weekend, you'll know it can feel a bit like herding cats through a hurricane of face paint and overpriced hot dogs. Well, there's good news on the horizon. Dundrum Town Centre has just announced it's becoming an official satellite location for St. Patrick's Festival 2026, which means you can soak up all the festive fun without battling through Temple Bar with a buggy.
This is actually the first time in the Festival's history that celebrations will extend beyond the city centre to a dedicated hub like this. It's the kind of practical genius that makes a tired mum want to weep with gratitude.
Three Days of Free Entertainment Under One Roof
From Saturday 14th to Monday 16th March, Dundrum Town Centre will transform into a buzzing hub of culture, creativity and all manner of weird and wonderful performances. The best bit? Every single act is completely free. No booking, no queuing for tickets at 6am, no "sorry love, sold out". Just show up and enjoy.
The theme this year is 'Roots' and the programme reflects that beautifully. You've got everything from traditional stone lifting (yes, really) to street dance battles, guerrilla Irish language ambushes and mischievous seagull performers who'll probably steal your chips if you're not watching.

Fun with seagull mascots outside Dundrum shopping centre.
Speaking of those seagulls… keep your eyes peeled for 'Oh My Flock!' featuring performers Graham Dunne, Nicola Moran and Lorcan Strain dressed as beady-eyed birds causing havoc around the centre with their shopping trolley full of burgers and chips. The kids will absolutely lose it. You might too.
The Highlights You Won't Want to Miss
There's genuinely something for everyone here. Here's a rundown of what's on offer:
- A Cup of Focals: Áine Gallagher will ambush unsuspecting shoppers for quick chats as Gaeilge. It's guerrilla Irish and it sounds brilliantly chaotic.
- Acid Granny: A collective of 'trad-futuristic' grannies spreading craic and ceol throughout the centre. Not a sentence I ever expected to write but here we are.
- Beryl's Big Day Out: Circus artist Maria Corcoran plays a formidable elderly woman who refuses to go quietly. Interactive circus performance meets comedy gold.
- The Couch Mobile: An armchair that seemingly moves on its own, inviting passersby to take a seat. Perfect for when your feet are killing you from all the walking.
- The Garda: Magician Colm O'Grady brings cheeky comedic magic with dare devil tricks that'll have the whole family watching through their fingers.
- Stones & Stories: Ayesha Ullah is reviving the ancient Irish tradition of stone lifting. The first ever Dublin Lifting Stone will make its debut here and visitors can try their luck at lifting stones (of a more accessible weight, thankfully).
- Battle of Zen: Live street dance battles featuring hip hop, breakdancing, krump, popping and more. High energy doesn't even begin to cover it.
- Dance Corner by Luail: Ireland's National Dance Company will transform Pembroke Square into a participatory dance experience. Join in or just watch, there's no pressure.
- Mr Wilson's: A New Orleans-inspired brass band parading through the centre. Your toddler will be dancing, guaranteed.
- S(h)tick: Two circus artists with diabolos exploring themes of competition, teamwork and finding joy in each other's failures. Surprisingly profound.
- Won't Be Told: Tumble Circus duo Ken Fanning and Tina Segner refuse to retire with over 30 years of juggling and gravity-defying acrobatics under their belts.
Why This Partnership Makes So Much Sense
Don Nugent, Senior General Manager at Dundrum Town Centre, said: "We are excited to unveil our first ever partnership with St Patrick's Festival bringing the best of this national celebration to Dundrum Town Centre under one roof. Whether you're from the local community, a regular visitor, or haven't been here in a while, we look forward to welcoming everyone to experience the unexpected."
For families, this is honestly a dream. You can hop on the Luas, catch some acts, grab lunch, let the kids burn off energy watching circus performers and still be home in time for bedtime. No navigating packed streets with prams. No hunting for public toilets. No meltdowns in the middle of O'Connell Street because someone dropped their flag.
Aoife Carry, Artistic Director at St. Patrick's Festival, added: "St. Patrick's Festival has always been about meeting people where they are and creating moments of connection through culture, creativity and shared experience. This new partnership allows us to extend the Festival beyond the city centre for the first time."
She continued: "As we explore the theme of Roots in 2026, this collaboration feels particularly meaningful, celebrating tradition, participation and the joy of coming together."
The full St. Patrick's Festival programme is available now at www.stpatricksfestival.ie with more events being announced regularly. You can also follow Dundrum Town Centre on Instagram, Facebook, X and TikTok for updates.
So mark those calendars, folks. The 14th to 16th March is shaping up to be one of those rare weekends where you can genuinely enjoy St. Patrick's Festival as a family without needing a lie down afterwards. And that, feels like something worth celebrating.
