We have been waiting a long time for even the slightest hint of a new Irish Government, but, finally, the first step has been taken today.
According to breaking reports, Enda Kenny has been voted in as Taoiseach.
The decision marks a momentous and historical day, as the Mayo native becomes the first Fine Gael Taoiseach to be voted in for a second term.
Heading into today’s meeting, Mr Kenny needed 58 votes to reassume the role – in the end, he emerged with 59 votes to 49 votes.
Enda Kenny - 'The first @FineGael Taoiseach ever to be re-elected.' Albeit against the wishes of three quarters of the electorate. #Dail

Congratulations @EndaKennyTD on your re-election as Taoiseach. You were reforming from 2011-2016, I hope we can continue to transform Éire.

Today’s progress, no less than 70 days after the General Election, has been welcomed by many who are eager to see the new Irish Government formed as soon as possible.
Others are less than enthused by Mr Kenny’s return to the role, however, as can be seen from the reactions on social networking site Twitter.
“Enda Kenny is Taoiseach again…Grand, we’re headed for another recession,” wrote one disillusioned tweeter.
