One of TV’s funniest mums, Doris Roberts has died aged 90.

 

Her cause of death has not been revealed but her son Michael Cannata confirmed she passed away in her sleep overnight in Los Angeles.

 

Doris, best known for playing the meddling mother to Ray Romano in the Emmy Award winning sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond.

 

Having received eight Emmy nominations herself and taking home four for her role as Marie Barone, Doris solidified herself as one of TVs most loved mums.

 

 

Former co-star Ray Romano has said in a statement:

 

“Doris Roberts had an energy and a spirit that amazed me.”

 

“She never stopped. Whether working professionally or with her many charities, or just nurturing and mentoring a green young comic trying to make it as an actor, she did everything with such a grand love for life and people and I will miss her dearly.”

 

Many others have now taken to social media to share their memories of the beloved actress.

 

Including her on-screen daughter-in-law, Patricia Heaton.
