This year has seen a number of companies reforming their parental leave policies to better accommodate more of their employees, and Spotify has followed suit this week.

The music streaming service has come in for major praise this morning, after unveiling a particularly generous new policy.

Making the big announcement from its New York offices, Spotify revealed that it will be offering six months of parental leave to all of its full-time employees globally. The policy, which is effective immediately, is said to have drawn inspiration from the company’s home base of Sweden.

The leave will be available to all new parents, including same-sex couples and parents who adopt and use surrogates. The employees will be able to avail of the leave during the first three years of their child’s life.

Parents can either take the leave in one straight run or in three separate phases throughout the three years.

Not only will employees benefit from the parental leave policy, but Spotify has also pledged to offer a month of flexible work options for those returning to the workplace.

Commenting on the significance behind the decision, Spotify’s CEO Daniel Ek said: “I think we can be a role model.”

Needless to say, the policy has gained widespread praise and support today. What are your thoughts?
