23-year-old Stacey Lee has social media to thank for reuniting her with her mother Brenda Drake after an eight year search.

Stacey became estranged from her mum in the early 1990s after she and her two brothers moved in with their father, but this didn't stop the young woman from Chorley from wondering about her mum.

At the age of fifteen, Stacey began searching for her mother with little success, but after taking to Facebook with her appeal, Stacey was reunited with her biological mother in mere hours.

Having been encouraged by her boyfriend, 22-year-old Martin Smith, Stacey posted a photo of herself holding a sign which included her mother's name as well as details relating to her birth and appealed to the public for information which may help her cause.

The photograph, which was shared more than 100,000 times on the popular social media site, had the desired effect and less than 24 hours later Stacey was put in touch with her mum.

Commenting on the moment she realised her search was over, an overwhelmed Stacey said: "She sent me her phone number and I called her. I was shaking as I dialled the number and I just sat staring at the phone for 15 minutes before I made the call."

21 years after last seeing her mum, Stacey had a tearful reunion with 46-year-old Brenda near her mother's home in Blackpool.

Opening up about the life-changing moment, Stacey said: "I went to meet her in a pub and when I saw her I just hugged her and we both cried. We were in shock. It was very emotional. We look a lot like each other and I am quite shy and quiet like her."
