When you pose for stock photography, you can never be too sure where your image will show up, which is something that one family learned the hard way this week.

 

The family featured on the ‘No’ posters for the marriage equality referendum campaign have said they are ‘appalled’ to feature in advertisements lobbying against marriage equality.

 

News first reached the couple through comedian Adam Hills, who saw the ‘No’ campaign image shared by fellow comedian Jason Manford and recognised the couple featured.

 

Hills then took to social media to share the couple’s response, telling his followers: “They are appalled that their faces are being used, without their permission, to promote something they wholeheartedly disagree with.”

 

So, there is a Marriage Equality vote in Ireland at the moment, and it has all got pretty heated. Posters like these...

He added: “Regardless of how you feel about the vote – what a weird, horrible, ridiculous world we live in, in which a loving, caring, open-minded family unit can be used to advertise the very opposite of what that particular family unit believes.”

 

Hill’s post has garnered plenty of attention and has received thousands of ‘likes’ since first being published to Facebook, with many expressing support for his comments.
