The power of social media has been proven time and time again, and one Dublin family are hoping that it will come through for them and their little daughter this week.

Little Elizabeth Soffe received burns to 60% of her body during a fire while her family were living in Qatar last year, and there is one particular soother that is ideal for the 18-month-old as she recovers. The only problem is, the Boots brand soothers have been discontinued.

Now Elizabeth’s parents, Liam and Sinéad, have shared their story in the hope that they will be able to find supplies of these soothers. Liam spoke to Joe Duffy on his Liveline show and filled him in on Elizabeth’s story.

Recalling the frightening incident last May, Liam said: “My wife just put her down for a nap and heard her crying on the baby monitor. When she went upstairs, there was smoke coming out of the door. The room was on fire, the cot was on fire, the baby was on fire.”

The accident is said to have been caused by a faulty air conditioning system, and while an ambulance arrived to take Elizabeth to hospital, she suffered severe burns to her body. Elizabeth was later transferred to a specialist burns unit at a hospital in Birmingham.

Dad Liam revealed that Elizabeth loves sucking on the Boots soothers pictured, but the company informed the couple that the product was discontinued in 2008. Now, they are looking for anyone with supplies lying around to help them out.

Anyone who can help is asked to get in touch with the Liveline staff through the regular text and phone lines.
