They say that a dog is a man’s best friend, and the Ryan family in Virginia, US, can certainly attest to this after their recent ordeal.

The family are heaving a major sigh of relief this week, after their toddler was found nine hours after going missing in the woods – with their loyal rescue dog, Banjo, by his side.

According to NBC News, little Mason Ryan left his home to follow his father’s car, only to end up wandering into a forest a couple of miles away from their home.

The three-year-old was barefoot and alone – except for loyal Banjo, whom the family rescued from a shelter two years previous. The Daschund didn’t leave the tot’s side throughout the entire ordeal.

Once the family noticed that little Mason was missing, a major search of the area was launched involving hundreds of locals. Eventually, at 3am in the morning, Mason was located – with Banjo by his side.

Speaking to local news outlets, relieved dad Blake revealed that the family owe Banjo a great debt.

“He brought my son back. He stayed with him through the woods and didn’t let him out of his sight and let the people know where he was,” he said.

Wow. It just goes to further prove that nothing can compare to the loyalty displayed by our furry family pets.
