A stray cat was found in a families tumble dryer after giving birth to four kittens in Liverpool.

The family said they had seen the cat in recent days and thought she was pregnant but then she suddenly disappeared.

The litter of kittens alongside their mum were found in amongst a load of washing in the dryer presumably to keep warm.

The homeowners spent two weeks caring for the newborns as they prepared to move house but were forced to call Rescue Me when they could not find a new home for the cats.

Speaking to The Mirror, Rescue Me's trustee Heather Prescott said:

“They were moving house so had to find them new homes but because we are a relatively new charity they hadn’t heard of us before.

“We were their last resort really. We went to pick the cats up as the moving van was taking the furniture away.”

The cats are now set to go to a foster home until they are old enough to be permanently rehomed.

The new owners will only have to name three kittens however, as one the only male has been given the fitting name, Tumble.
