A police investigation has been launched following the tragic death of a 14-year-old boy at the the hands of his father in Cincinnati, Ohio.
According to reports, the father at the centre of the case accidentally shot his teenage son after mistaking him for an intruder in their family home.
It has been established that Georta Mack's father dropped him at a bus stop early on Tuesday morning, but was unaware his child had returned to the house.
Apparently startled by a noise emanating from the home's basement, Georta's father armed himself with a gun and mistakenly shot his son in the neck before frantically calling emergency services and explaining what had occurred.
Having been transferred to Cincinnati Children's Hospital medical centre, Georta tragically died from injuries sustained during the incident.
Speaking to the press, Captain Terri Theetge asserted that the police department would be interviewing Georta's father and reviewing the investigation with the Hamilton Prosecutor's Office.
