A fundraising campaign has been launched to aid a family who lost their son in a carbon monoxide leak.

Gavin Klebs, 10, died from carbon monoxide poisoning while staying in a cabin in Alaska, with his family.

According to reports, Gavin and his eight-year-old sister, Caroline, were complaining of headaches while at the cabin with their mother, Sarah.

The family went to bed, with Sarah believing that her children were suffering from a flu virus.

By the time all three were found, Gavin had passed away, while Sarah and her daughter were left requiring extensive medical treatment.

Sarah and Caroline have been released from hospital, and are said to be ‘doing exceptionally well given their questionable medical conditions upon admission’.

Sarah and husband Matt are also parents to 14-year-old Connor.

A GoFundMe page (link here) has been set up to help family with their medical costs.

Over on the page, a loved one wrote: “The physical and emotional devastation of this tragedy is unspeakable, not to mention the financial obligations from the medical care for Sarah and Caroline.

“If you’d like to help the Klebs family in covering these costs, we ask that you consider making a donation below. Please know that the family is extremely grateful for your help during their time of grief and healing.

“The family is mourning the loss of Gavin, but they rest in the peace that he is with our Heavenly Father.”

It has since emerged that the carbon monoxide leak was caused by a faulty propane-powered fridge in the cabin. The family had yet to install their carbon monoxide detector.

We’re thinking of the Klebs family at this time, and we’re wishing Sarah and Caroline a speedy recovery.
