We have some incredibly sad news to share this evening, with the announcement that little Julian Cadman has been confirmed dead.

A major search had been underway for the seven-year-old schoolboy, who went missing after getting caught up in the terrorist attacks in Las Ramblas, Barcelona, last week.

According to family, Julian vanished after getting separated from his mother, Jom, who was injured in the attack. She was brought to hospital on Thursday, where she was treated for her injuries.

In the meantime, Julian's father flew into Spain from his native Australia, as part of the search for the little boy. His grandfather, Tony Cadman, also launched a social media appeal for help in locating Julian.

The tragic news of Julian's death was confirmed this evening, in a statement released by Spanish authorities.

HIs family paid tribute to him in a statement, delivered via the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Australia.

"Julian was a much loved and adored member of our family. As he was enjoying the sights of Barcelona with his mother, Julian was sadly taken from us. He was so energetic, funny and cheeky, always bringing a smile to our faces.

"We are so blessed to have had him in our lives and will remember his smiles and hold his memory dear to our hearts.

"We would like to thank all those who helped us in searching for Julian. Your kindness was incredible during a difficult time."

Our hearts go out to the family at this devastating time.
