Kevin and Nickey Dickson were celebrating Bonfire Night at a firework display in Formby when a rouge firework exploded into the crowd, hitting their eight-year-old daughter on the leg.

The firework had narrowly missed their baby before it struck Molly, leaving her with bruises and burns to her clothes. Understandably, the youngster was left shaken by the ordeal and her parents have spoken out about what exactly happened that night.

“We were stood closest to the display and after about half an hour a firework exploded right towards the crowd. Everyone just ran. I screamed at my kids to run but it hit our eldest, Molly, in the leg. It was chaos. Molly was hysterical and Bethany was in a state of shock,” Nickey told the ECHO.

Thankfully, Molly, who was left with a bruise on her leg and a burn mark on her leggings, wasn’t burnt, with her mum admitting: “It’s not worth thinking about what could have happened. “

Kevin explained that the firework, which also injured three teenage girls, shot at him and the pram before he managed to push his baby out of the way.

A spokeswoman for Merseyside Police confirmed the incident, saying: “Merseyside Police can confirm that officers attended Lonsdale Road, Formby at around 7.40pm. Organisers of a fireworks display cancelled the remainder of the event, after a firework, thought to be faulty, misfired into the crowd.”.
