Our lives are so hectic these days that every member nearly needs their own separate diary! This is why the mid-term is such a welcome break from routine; and with the Easter holidays only around the corner, we are looking forward to making the most of this downtime with the kids.

With no school for the little ones, and a few extra days off work for us, we have chance to do create some fun-filled family memories by doing something a little special and that bit different.

So, if you have cleared your schedule and are currently looking to fill the Easter holidays with exciting family activities for the kids, why not take some inspiration from our favourite suggestions?

Have an Easter egg hunt
There’s a reason why the egg hunt is such a seasoned favourite Easter activity among families – it’s fun, it’s energetic, and everyone can get involved. It couldn’t be easier to organise, either; simply purchase some cheap plastic eggs (supermarkets and craft shops will have plenty), hide them around the garden, arm your little ones with baskets, and tell them to get hunting! Add a twist by providing clues as to where the eggs are nestled. When the hunt is over, present everyone with a treat of their choice – it’s not about the winning, it’s all about the taking part.

Hold a ‘sports day’
This is the time of year when schools and clubs start rolling out their sports days, so why not follow their lead and have your own mini event in the back-garden? Get out your skipping ropes, draw chalk hopscotch, arrange an egg and spoon race, and get the entire family involved. Not only is this a great way to enjoy some fun as a family, but everyone will benefit from the fresh air and time outdoors.

Take a staycation
You don’t need to take a plane or shell out thousands of Euro to enjoy some time out in beautiful surroundings this Easter; just take out a travel guide and explore one of Ireland’s hidden gems. There is nothing quite like packing a picnic and hitting the open road with the family, to explore our stunning castles, lakes and beautiful towns and villages. A staycation is the perfect way to enjoy some quality family time, creating amazing and fun-filled memories.

Head to McDonald’s for Family Fun Day
When we think of special childhood occasions, the golden arches of McDonald’s always spring to mind – and this Easter will be no different. To mark the release of Smurfs: The Lost Village, McDonald’s restaurants nationwide are hosting a Smurfs Family Fun day on Thursday, April 13. This will be a day of fun, free activities for families to enjoy, with face-painting, balloon animals and games on the agenda – plenty to keep the kids entertained for the day!

Do some Easter baking
Baking is always a great way of spending time together as a family – not only do you get to have some fun in the kitchen, and sample your creations; but you’re also teaching your children a vital life skill that they will carry with them forever. In-keeping with the Easter theme, why not have a go at making some hot cross buns? Here’s MummyPages’ tried and tested recipe.

Organise a special family dinner
Easter is a great time to get the extended family together, and the best way to do this is to organise a special family dinner for everyone – grandparents, aunts and uncles, and cousins. We get so few opportunities to spend time with our nearest and dearest, and these occasions make for the most special memories for our children. Take the pressure off by asking everyone to bring a dish or component of the meal, and focus on good conversation and enjoying each other’s company.
