They say you can’t take your eyes off your child for a second these days, and this latest report proves this in the most alarming way.

A Perth family was left shocked and terrified when a thief stole their car and drove away in it – while their 10-month-old son was still inside.

David Donnelly was checking out the construction site of his new home with his wife when the incident occurred. Son Corbin was asleep inside the car at the time.

The as yet unidentified thief jumped into the car without warning and sped off down the street. Mr Donnelly managed to mount the bonnet in a bid to stop the car, then he proceeded to chase the vehicle before it crashed into a nearby yard.

While the thief managed to get away, thankfully little Corbin made it out of the accident with just a cut lip.

Speaking to local media, Mr Donnelly described his mixed emotions after the ordeal: “Shock, relief – and happy – but at the same time, just a mess. It could have been worse. Thank God the capsule [baby seat] was tied down and strapped in.”

Police have since launched a major search for the thief.
