This mum-of-two found herself in the middle of a schoolyard scandal last month after she made public a private email sent by the mum of her daughter's classmate.

The correspondence which highlights two little girls' birthday requests was met by disdain by singer Myleene Klass and she wasted no time highlighting what she felt was blatant greed and an example of the unnecessary financial pressure put on families.

The 36-year-old mum to daughters Ava and Hero has decided to hit back at her critics, who felt she deserved the public dressing down she received from the school's headmistress following the event, saying: "I know it doesn't make me popular but this is what I stand for. I wasn't raised like that."

The former Hearsay star does acknowledge that the mums in question felt they were offering a solution to a problem by suggesting a group birthday present for their daughters.

Myleene, however, asserts that extravagant gifts for school friends shouldn't become the norm, saying: "The joy of a getting a gift of some felt-tips and a yo-yo when you're a kid cant be diminished. Surely that's what you'd rather have for your seventh birthday, not a Kindle or a desk."

Standing by her decision to tweet the private email to her almost half a million followers, Myleene was extremely matter-of-fact, saying: "This is why I keep getting myself in trouble. I can't keep my mouth shut. But that's who I am."
