A father-of-four who used six false IDs to claim almost half a million euro in social welfare faces his sentencing today.

Over a period of 12 years, David Church unlawfully claimed Jobseekers’ Allowance and Rent Allowance at various post offices between 2002 and 2013.

According to reports, the father went to the UK to obtain people’s birth certificates paying £10 for each before using the identities to claim welfare here.

The fraud claims only came to light when the Department of Social Protection used facial recognition software to establish that the same photo was being used on a number of identities.

Rather than spending the money on his four children, the 39-year-old gambled and drank most of it away and had no wealth upon his arrest in 2013.

Fortunately, no one was affected by the false identities and David Church will be sentenced today.
