A 27-year-old man has appeared before Dublin's Cloverhill District Court today having been charged with child abduction.

The court heard that David Ryan, of no fixed abode, abducted a six-year-old boy with Down's Syndrome on Dublin's Liffey Street on June 11th this year.

It has been established that the father-of-two pushed the child who was in a buggy across the road before taking food from his hand and eating it.

Having searched the child's buggy, it has been established that Mr. Ryan then abandoned the boy who requires 'extensive care' in Dublin's city centre.

The child was left on his own before being spotted by a concerned security guard.

An account of events was described to the court in June, with Garda Elaine Holmes explaining that the child who 'has no speech' could not communicate with the security guard who ultimately took responsibility for him after becoming aware he was on his own.

Mr. Ryan, who was refused bail at his first court appearance on June 12th, was today served with a book of evidence and ordered to return for trial on indictment on November 6th

Should Mr. Ryan be convicted of child abduction, he faces a maximum seven years behind bars.
