Despite the large volume of reports detailing shocking incidents of breastfeeding-shaming, these stories keep coming thick and fast, and this latest one has received a lot of media attention this weekend.

Three female golfers have been suspended from their Leicestershire club after complaining over a woman breastfeeding in their clubhouse.

The women – the ladies’ team captain, the competition secretary and another member – were accused of “unbecoming behaviour” over their comments about the nursing mother.

According to reports, the trio returned to the clubhouse after a game to find six mothers there with their children. After spotting a mother breastfeeding her child, one of the trio is alleged to have complained that she “put her right off her food”, a comment which was overheard by the group.

Since the suspension, two of the members have resigned in protest, while another is set to fight the sanction at a disciplinary hearing next month.

Commenting on the incident, member Janet Morris said: “It is about decorum. She could have turned her back to us or gone in the locker room for some privacy. The mother was just yards away and facing everyone in the clubhouse. It was almost a deliberately provocative move.”

She also went on to brand the incident a “storm in a teacup”, adding: “The women [mothers] complained to the club and we were suspended. I am fighting this action by the club as I did not speak to any of these women at all.”
