Gardaí are investigating a fatal collision involving a car and a truck on the N17 Galway to Sligo Road at Lisduff on the 11 September 2017 at approximately 12:30pm.

 

The occupants of the car, two women (70s and 40s) and a boy (7), have been pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver was uninjured but was treated for shock.

 

Traffic diversions are in place and forensic collision investigators are at the scene. Southbound traffic is diverted to Ballyhaunis and motorists are asked to avoid the Ballyhaunis and motorists are asked to avoid the Claremorris Ballinrobe Junction.

 

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact Claremorris Garda Station on 094-9372080, The Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666-111 or any Garda Station.

 

Gardaí are also investigating a separate incident which occurred in Co.Cork this morning.

 

The road traffic accident occurred at around 11am on the main road from Cork to Limerick, close to the junction for Waterloo, Blarney.

 

The man and woman, who were in their sixties, were pronounced dead at the scene.

 

Four other people were injured in the accident, including the driver of the car and his fellow female passenger, who were taken to Cork University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

 

It is believed the deceased were U.S citizens, who were traveling with their partners.

 

The N20 is to set to remain closed for the rest of the day as an investigation is carried out.

 

Gardaí have advised motorists to avoid the area.
