An international football match, which was due to take place this evening, has been cancelled following the discovery of a 'suspicious object' in the HDI Arena in Hannover, Germany.

Following the horrifying events which unfolded in Paris on Friday, governments and security officials have been on high alert, and the decision has been made to postpone the highly-anticipated game between Germany and Holland.

In addition to postponing the match, the German stadium was swiftly evacuated, with police reportedly telling concerned football fans: "Move away from the stadium. Do not stand still. Please go in small groups back home."

It has not yet been established whether the security scare has links to the attacks which took place in the French capital last week and saw the death of more than 120 people.

It is understood that German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, and several cabinet ministers were due to attend tonight's football match in the German city.
