The friend of a woman, who came to public attention in Australia, has spoken out against the actions of social media users who have launched an attack on her friend following an incident which Perth police have deemed a ‘genuine’ mistake.

According to numerous media reports, the woman at the centre of the case accidentally left her 14-month-old son in an unattended vehicle in an incident which quickly came to the attention of onlookers.

It has been established that the child was “sweating and crying” but thankfully did not require medical attention when rescued by police in the car park of a shopping centre in north-east Perth.

Commenting on the incident, a spokeswoman for the police asserted that no charges would be brought against the child’s mother, confirming; “It was established the parent had genuinely forgotten the child was left in the vehicle at the time.”

Upon learning of the incident which took place during highs of 36 degrees, members of the public took to their social media channels to condemn the actions of the mother who was understandable devastated by the incident.

Speaking out on behalf of the mum who could have faced a $36,000 fine or three years imprisonment under Western Australia law, a friend said: “I am absolutely appalled at how people on social media are so quick to judge a situation that they know absolutely nothing about.”

Defending the mother of the young boy, they continued: “She already feels horrible for what she has done and now people are making it even worse.”

The incident took place last Monday morning.
