Fun & simple Easter crafts to try out with your little ones

Easter is right around the corner and even though it’s a time for enjoying chocolate and go hunting for eggs, we love getting crafty with our little ones at this time of year.

Having time away from school and a long weekend away from work means we have more time to create beautiful masterpieces with our children. There are so many possibilities for Easter-themed artistic ideas to get crafty with!

We’re here to give you a helping hand by sharing some of our favourite Easter crafts that we do with our children time and time again when the Spring-time holiday comes around. These projects don’t require much equipment, just a good imagination and items you probably already have at home.

Bunny frame

You will need: Paper, pencil scissors, glue, cotton wool balls, photograph of your child

Method: Draw an outline of an Easter bunny or trace one from a picture online. Cut it out and let your child stick a photo of them where the bunny’s face would be. Next, they will glue the cotton wool balls all around the rest of the bunny’s body to make white fur.

Egg painting

You will need: Hard boiled eggs, paint, paintbrushes

Method: A classic Easter craft that is so easy. Simply boil your eggs until they are hard-boiled to avoid any mess if they crack. Give your child a paintbrush and some paints and let them decorate their Easter eggs to their heart's content.

Bunny puppet

You will need: Sock, elastic bands, marker, rice, googly eyes

Method: Fill a clean old sock with rice. Use an elastic band to tie off around the top portion of the sock to form a head and wrap around the neck area so it stays in place. At the top of the sock, tie another elastic brand around to create ‘ears’ and to ensure the rice from the head portion doesn’t fall out. Decorate your rabbit with googly eyes and draw on any features you like!

Baby chicks

You will need: Clean egg shell halves, cotton wool balls, paint, paintbrushes, glue, card or felt

Method: Ensure your egg shell halves are clean and dry. Paint the cotton wool balls with yellow paint to create the chick. Once dry, glue them into one half of the egg shell, leaving the other half as the top to make it look like a chick has just hatched. Glue on black card or felt to create eyes and orange for the beak.

Easter egg stamps

You will need: Potatoes, knife, paper, paints, paintbrushes

Method: Carefully cut your potato if half and on the fleshy inside, carve out simple designs to make it look like an Easter egg. Do little squiggly lines, stripes, zig zags or spots. Place a piece of paper (or an Easter card for a loved one!) in front of your child and let them apply paint to the potato stamp with their paintbrush. All they have to do is stamp the design onto the paper to create an egg-celent picture.

Bunny mask

You will need: Lollipop sticks, pipe cleaners, pom poms, paint, paintbrushes, card

Method: Get your child to paint their lollipop stick any colour they like. Let the sticks dry and wrap pipe cleaners around them to create whiskers like a bunny rabbit. Glue the pipe cleaners in place, stick pom poms to create cheeks and a nose. Add little squares of card for the front teeth.

Dough eggs

You will need: 1 cup flour, 1 cup water, 1/2 cup salt, rolling pin, knife, paint, paintbrush

Method: Mix the flour, water and salt together to form a dough. Roll out to create an even sheet of dough of about 1/2 cm thickness and cut out the shape of eggs freehand or use a cookie cutter if you have one. If you want to be able to hang these decorations somewhere, use a straw to cut a little circle at the top of the egg so you can loop thread through after painting. Allow them to air dry completely before painting them with any design your little ones likes. If you have other shaped cookie cutters, you can create other Easter designs too!

Bunny handprints

You will need: Paper, paint, paintbrush, marker

Method: Place a piece of paper in front of your little one. Apply white paint to their hand and get them to separate their fingers into the ‘Star Trek hand gesture’ where their index and middle finger are together, and their ring finger and pinky finger are together to make the shape of bunny ears. Make a print of their hand in this position on the paper. Once dry, add details like eyes, mouth, nose, whiskers and a cute Easter bow with marker.
