Authorities in Dublin have appealed for information today, after a member of the public discovered an abandoned baby on Steelstown Road, Rathcoole, in County Dublin yesterday.

According to reports, the baby – whom Gardaí believe may have been born 24 to 36 hours previous – was found in a plastic bag on the side of the road.

The baby, who was “fed and nourished” before being abandoned, was taken to Tallaght Hospital, and later transferred to Coombe Hospital where she is said to be in a stable condition.

Today, Superintendent Brendan Connolly of Clondalkin Garda Station made a fresh appeal to the public, calling on anyone with information to get in touch.

“Gardaí are concerned for the welfare of the mother of this child and are appealing for her to seek immediate medical treatment and to contact Gardaí, who are anxious to reunite her with her baby,” he said.

Superintendent Connolly added: “Gardaí will deal with this matter with the utmost sensitivity and care for both mother and child.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Gardaí at Clondalkin on 01 6667600, or through the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111; they can also get in touch with any Garda Station.
