Gardaí are investigating the closure of Scoil Dara, Kilcock today due to safety concerns.
The co-educational secondary school was closed today after graffiti in the school toilets was found to contain an alarming message.
The Journal.ie reports that the message threatened a mass shooting would happen at the school on Tuesday, December 5, though the threat is not believed to be serious or viable. However, a ceremony was due to take place at the school today, so it would have been crowded.
The board of management stated yesterday, "Following a meeting of the Board of Management of Scoil Dara late this evening, it has been decided to close the school to students tomorrow Tuesday, 5 December pending a safety risk assessment.
"Sincere apologies for the late notice and inconvenience."
The Gardaí were informed of the situation this morning.
According to the Journal.ie, they said, "We are investigating a matter that has been brought to our attention, in a school in Kildare, investigations are ongoing."
