Gardaí have confirmed that they are investigating sexual assault allegations against a member of staff at a crèche in County Kildare.

Independent.ie reports that the claims were made last week, in relation to two children at the ‘well-known’ but as yet unidentified childcare facility.

The Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Investigation Unit is said to be handling the case, and taking the allegations ‘extremely seriously’.

Tusla, Ireland’s child and family agency, is also said to be involved with the current investigation.

No further details regarding the allegations themselves have been disclosed to the public, and gardaí went on to confirm that no arrests have as yet been made.

“The investigation is at an early stage and is of a sensitive nature, and we are therefore not in a position to comment any further, as this is an ongoing investigation,” a garda rep said in a statement.
