It’s about to reach peak levels of chaos in towns and city centres around the country, but gardaí are reminding people to be vigilant as they finish off their Christmas shopping over the coming days.

The authorities have revealed that gangs of pick-pocketers are on the prowl nationwide, and they have been targeting busy Christmas shoppers caught up in the festive rush.

According to a report in the Irish Mirror this weekend, authorities and security companies have noticed an increase in instances of robberies taking place on the streets, both by day and by night.

Gardaí are now out in force and are on top of the problem, but they have urged members of the public to be extra vigilant when out and about, especially at ATMs and if approached by a stranger.

Ensure that your wallets, handbags and mobile phones are secure at all times, don’t leave your bags unattended, and be cautious if stopped by a stranger in the street.

Unfortunately, this is the sad and harsh reality of modern life at this time of the year, so remember to stay safe out there.
