Yesterday, the body of 14-year-old Anastasia Kriegel was found in a derelict building on the Clonee Road in Lucan.

Gardaí are now launching a murder investigation into the death of the missing teenager, BreakingNews.ie reports.

She had last been seen on Monday evening at Catherine's Park, near the building in which she was later found. It is believed the teen was physically assaulted, resulting in her death, according to the Irish Times.

Ana was a first-year student at Confey Community College in Leixlip. The school released a statement on their website about her death:

"This is a terrible tragedy for the Kriegel family, our school and our community. We are deeply saddened by Anastasia's death. Our sympathy, thoughts and prayers are with the Kriegel family and friends."

Superintendent John Gordon from Lucan Garda Station has asked the public to come forward with information that could aid the investigation, according to BreakingNews.ie.

"Anybody who was here, anybody who knows anything at all about Ana or what happened here, any information they may have, we ask that they pass it to us," he said.

Superintendent Gordon has also asked that her family's privacy is respected during this difficult time.

"As you can imagine at this time they are receiving a lot of support from An Garda Siochana but they are extremely distressed and they are also looking for the public's assistance and privacy as well.

"They have another child in that house so they need to be careful around that."

Our hearts go out to Ana's friends and family during this tragic time.
