Madeleine McCann was just three-years-old when she went missing from a holiday apartment in Praia da Luz in 2007, and her parents have been looking for her ever since.
In a bid to raise awareness this Christmas, Gerry and Kate have taken part in a Missing People’s exhibition which highlights British families whose loved ones have disappeared without trace.
As part of the exhibition, which also features 11 other families, the McCanns have shared a list of 23 things they miss about their daughter, alongside a picture of them holding an image of what Maddie would look like now.
From her dimples to her company, the list is a heartbreaking reminder of everything the parents, who also have ten-year-old twins, have lost.
Here the list in full:
- Her smile
- Her laughter
- Her eyes
- Her dimples
- Her sense of humour
- Her smartness
- Her imitations of people and characters
- Her voice, her ‘chat’
- Her company
- That knowing look
- Her singing
- Styling her hair
- Chasing her round the garden
- Sharing her excitement in the run-up to Christmas
- Sharing anything
- Spoiling her on her birthday
- Shopping with her
- Going to a cafe with her
- Holding her, hugging her, kissing the top of her head
- Lying next to her
- Our complete family of five
- Everything
- We miss her
Speaking about the charity’s Home for Christmas campaign, a spokesperson said: “These powerful images depict families standing by their front doors, symbolising the hopes and fears experienced by those desperately waiting for news.”
The campaign comes not long after the British investigation into her disappearance was scaled down from 29 officers to four.
